Dear parents/guardians, The Kenner Discovery administration along with the City of Kenner, elected officials and contractors have made every effort to begin school as planned for the high school. Rather than extending the school year into June, the high school will add 2 days to the week of Thanksgiving break (November 20 & 21) and add 2 days to the winter break (December 18 & 19). Follow the link to see the revised high school calendar on the school website. Build-A-Classroom day is postponed to Saturday, September 9th. New Student Orientation and Book Day are still scheduled on Friday, September 1st. We appreciate your patience and flexibility throughout the building process. 2017-18 Arrival and Dismissal – Maine Avenue Campus We are very excited for the beginning of the new school year. We would like to share one of our most important daily procedures, so we can have successful beginnings and endings to each school day. Carpool is a challenging part of the school day, so please be extra patient with fellow drivers and neighbors. We request that all cars stay to the side of the street and not block neighbors’ driveways. Remember we share Maine St. with St. Lawrence located directly across the street. Their employees and visitors must be allowed passage. Our faculty and employees work the carpool lines, in all kinds of weather, to ensure the safety of your children. They are enforcing our school rules. Please be patient and kind, and follow their directions. All students should be dropped off in the carpool line. In accordance with a City of Kenner Ordinance, parents are not allowed to park and walk students. Unfortunately, these are only permitted for students who have provided documentation from a medical professional stating it is necessary for them to be successful at school each day due to their medical diagnosis. Please do not allow your child to bring any toys or fidgets to school if they do not have permission from their designated principal/administrator. These will be collected from students who are not permitted to have them and only returned to parents/guardians at the end of the year. Thank you for assisting with this, KDHSA Administration TEAM
