KDHSA Families: This afternoon KDHSA was notified of a disturbance at Walmart near the Maine Ave Campus. All students and staff immediately moved into lockdown. KDHSA Admin called 911 to verify the report and to inform emergency services of the school’s lockdown. The 911 operator reported that the situation was handled and under control and that KDHSA was safe to move out of lockdown. Our students and staff responded swiftly and safely to the lockdown announcement as previously practiced during multiple safety drills throughout the school year. We know this matter may have upset some students. As you know, your child’s safety and wellbeing is paramount. Update: Office Hours for 4th Grade Students, Offered Tues - Friday, 7:45 - 8:10 Dear Parents and Guardians, Thank you so much for supporting our LEAP Review Office Hours for our 4th Grade students. This morning we had over 50 students attempt to attend, and some students were turned away. To eliminate this issue, we are adding an overflow class daily. Students will report to the appropriate room. When that class fills, the door will be shut, and the overflow will be sent to a second classroom for instruction. Therefore, we will be able to accommodate 52 students per day. Please be first in the carpool line, arrive at 7:45, and take advantage of this needed practice. The schedule will be as follows: (2 classes per day) Tuesdays Wednesdays Thursdays Fridays Reading Math Writing Math As always, we appreciate your support, Lyn Kelly

Dear KDHSA Families, CRC Global Solutions has become a wonderful supporter of our school and community. They are a worldwide company that helps grow other companies. CRC has a partnership with local grocery stores. These stores often have extra food on hand and no place to store it, so they donate it to CRC who, through their charitable program, "We care, We Share", distributes it to the community. They would like to invite all KDHSA families to a distribution event this Saturday at Divine Mercy Church located at 4337 Sal Lentini Pkwy, Kenner, LA 70065. The event will begin at 10:00 A.M. and will go on as long as there is food available. This will be a carpool line event where all attendees will remain in their vehicles in a designated line. Volunteers will be present to direct traffic and to deliver food items to each vehicle as it arrives at the distribution point. If you have any questions and/or concerns, please contact Michelle Duplantier, Parent Liaison, at michelle.duplantier@discoveryhsf.org or (504) 814-9822.

Lower School Dismissal and Transportation Safety In order to insure the safety of all students, carpool drivers must have their blue or green placard hanging from their rearview mirror. If the driver does not have the placard, they must go to the front office to show an ID to pick up their students. If a parent needs to change dismissal transportation plans, we must have a documented request from a parent/guardian. Please send a note to the teacher or call, or email the office before 2:45. All notes will be copied and pinned on PK-2nd grade students. Third and fourth grade students will be given notes to show to the faculty member on duty at the dismissal site. If a child does not have a documented request, he/she will report to their normal dismissal site. Thanks, The Admin Team

Dear parents/guardians, The Kenner Discovery administration along with the City of Kenner, elected officials and contractors have made every effort to begin school as planned for the high school. However, the extreme weather conditions have caused a delay in completing the construction project. The final step of completing electrical connections has been a challenge due to the local weather conditions and the need in Houston. The start date for high school is now Monday, September 11, 2017. Rather than extending the school year into June, the high school will add 2 days to the week of Thanksgiving break (November 20 & 21) and add 2 days to the winter break (December 18 & 19). Follow the link to see the revised high school calendar on the school website. Build-A-Classroom day is postponed to Saturday, September 9th. New Student Orientation and Book Day are still scheduled on Friday, September 1st. We appreciate your patience and flexibility throughout the building process. All schools will dismiss at the regular dismissal time. We consider this eclipse to be an educational event. The event will be addressed throughout the school day in an intentional manner. We encourage all students to attend school and participate in our planned day. If at home, parents/guardians and teachers are encouraged to stress to students that safety is of the utmost importance during a solar eclipse and failure to take the necessary viewing precautions may lead to permanent eyesight damage. 2017-18 Arrival and Dismissal – Maine Avenue Campus We are very excited for the beginning of the new school year. We would like to share one of our most important daily procedures, so we can have successful beginnings and endings to each school day. Carpool is a challenging part of the school day, so please be extra patient with fellow drivers and neighbors. We request that all cars stay to the side of the street and not block neighbors’ driveways. Remember we share Maine St. with St. Lawrence located directly across the street. Their employees and visitors must be allowed passage. Our faculty and employees work the carpool lines, in all kinds of weather, to ensure the safety of your children. They are enforcing our school rules. Please be patient and kind, and follow their directions. All students should be dropped off in the carpool line. In accordance with a City of Kenner Ordinance, parents are not allowed to park and walk students. Parents and Guardians, There are some very exciting fidgets (medical toys) being brought to campus each day. Unfortunately, these are only permitted for students who have provided documentation from a medical professional stating it is necessary for them to be successful at school each day due to their medical diagnosis. Please do not allow your child to bring any toys or fidgets to school if they do not have permission from their designated principal/administrator. These will be collected from students who are not permitted to have them and only returned to parents/guardians at the end of the year. Thank you for assisting with this, KDHSA Administration TEAM
