DJOD annoucement

Discovery is growing and opening a second school thanks to an innovative partnership between Discovery and Ochsner Health System,  In March 2019, the Jefferson Parish School Board unanimously approved plans for the Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy at the John Martyn campus. Dr. John Ochsner Discovery will open in the fall of 2020. Once fully enrolled, the school will educate approximately 750 students in grades Pre-kindergarten through 8th grade.

The school will be named after the late Dr. John Ochsner - a world-renowned cardiologist and son of Dr. Alton Ochsner, founder of the health system – who firmly believed in investing in education to give Louisiana and its children a promising future.

Dr. John Ochsner Discovery will open in August of 2020 (grades K-4) at an interim location at 2012 Jefferson Highway before transitioning into its permanent, new campus located at 1108 Shrewsbury Road in August of 2021 (grades K-6).  It will then grow by one grade level each year until fully expanded to serve students in Pre-K through 8th grade.

Dr. John Ochsner Discovery will be a replication of the Kenner Discovery K-8 model and offer the same rigorous curriculum with a focus on health sciences.
